Purchasing a Learning Management System LMS is a substantial undertaking in and of itself. The last thing you need is for someone to add a new level of complexity.

Learning and Development L&D Managers who run the gauntlet of assessing a Learning Management System LMS will be familiar with at least two main problems. Firstly, there are hundreds of products on the market with no clear differentiation. Secondly, once procurement is complete, you're on your own!

Say, for example, the revelation that “Our company isn’t the actual developer of this software. We’re a reseller.” Sound like a disadvantage? Well, dig deeper, and you may find it’s the best news you’ve had all week! Read on to find out why...

1. How much research do you need?

The majority of the heavy lifting in sourcing a suitable LMS is in assessing the available options. As far as Skillslive is aware, there are over 700 Learning Management Systems LMS products on the market. And we’re probably unaware of a whole bunch more! If you’ve got the time to check all of them - or even the top 20 - then lucky you. If not, remember that an excellent Value-Added Reseller (or “VAR partner”) already knows the market and has chosen to partner with its best available offering.

If you’d like to know more about Skillslive’s decision to partner with Docebo Learn Platform LMS, reach out - We’d be delighted to walk you through our decision criteria.

2. You have the backing of two separate entities

Consider how a software vendor is motivated to see the success of your organisations learning outcomes on their platform. Now imagine the results you can achieve when *both* the vendor and an entirely separate company want to see your project succeed. We’re all in the journey together.

3. There’s local support

While the convenience of SaaS and off-the-shelf software has become indispensable for many organisations, wouldn’t it be great to have a phone number to call? Especially when that phone line is available during hours that are friendly to your business. Check out our location: Your reseller might even be just down the road!

4. You gain a service partner to guide your Learning outcomes. Think content!

A sufficiently resourced VAR partner will offer a wide range of services beyond the sale of the Learning Management System LMS. From installation through to launch, ancillary services, such as the sourcing of learning content, or authoring of bespoke content, integrations with other software, data migration, LMS managed services, a Value Added Reseller (VAR) partner can be so much more than just a reseller. Further still, having walked you through the implementation and deployment process, a VAR partner is likely to have a deep understanding of your system, your brand and the overall requirements of your learning and development (L&D) outcomes and objectives.

In addition to its custom learning software, Skillslive is a proud Value-Added Reseller partner of the Docebo learning platform (just in case you hadn’t noticed!), and we work with our clients to produce learning experiences that end users relish.

Skillslive, together with Docebo, gives you the LMS you need, the social learning experience your learners want, and the power of Artificial Intelligence.

Let our team guide you on how to get the most out of your Learning Management System LMS. Skillslive is a Docebo Learning Platform expert. With experience and knowledge in Course Authoring and Instructional Design. Make learning your competitive advantage!

The integration has been initiated with a successful launch in 2018 following extensive R & D by Skillslive’s Development Team. The launch opens the gates from automated payment processing of several thousand education bookings, bypassing the need for hundreds of hours of manual processing and the likelihood of human error; supplanting it with nothing more than a smooth and seamless business process driven by the end user’s selections at the front end, and a balanced ledger at the back.

Confessions of a RTO Compliance Manager...

When I first began working in a Registered Training Organisation in Victoria, I was amazed: And not in a good way.  Paperwork had the administration offices packed and struggling for space.  Staff spent hours labelling forms and moving them between various colours of manila folder.  Filing cabinets and document storage boxes were stacked in teetering piles right up to the ceiling.

Aside from the obvious OH & S concerns this arrangement should raise, the organisation was bearing an undetermined addition to commercial rent costs.  And that was just on site; there was also an off-site storage facility similarly stacked with paperwork, costing thousands per year; not to mention the cost of sending staff to and fro in search of items that should have been on hand at the touch of a button.

Rather than espousing the labour-saving, reliability, cost, sustainability and numerous other benefits of digital over paper-based record keeping (If you’re not already convinced of these, you really needn’t read on), I’d prefer to explore where Australia sits on a world scale.

Firstly, Australian bureaucracy is legendary.  Even the Brits have taken note of the antipodean love of the old rubber stamp.  Whilst this may be useful for the verification of facts, agreements and dates (often known as ‘covering your backside’), few would disagree that excessive bureaucracy is a hindrance to business and a handbrake on the economy overall.

Secondly, while we love to view ourselves as an innovative nation that punches above its weight on a technology basis, the reality is far from it.  Australian adoption of digital technology is in fact slow at best, and places us a long way down the table, well behind such countries as Spain, the US, the UAE, Italy and Estonia (World in Figures 2017: The Economist Group).

Think about it: For a nation that mandates voting at three different levels of government, even today we require every registered voter to schlep down to the local community hall and line up to cast a vote.  On paper.  Those we elect to lead our nation are similarly trapped in the formalities of yesteryear.  If you have ever listened to broadcasts from the House of Representatives, you will know, for example, what riveting radio a division makes: Four minutes of mumbling, chuckling and the sound of collegial elbows hitting ribs at a cost of thousands to the taxpayer, all for what could be decided in seconds if only the honourable members were equipped with a ‘Yes/No’ button at their seats.  Or a smartphone app.  Heck, even Facebook’s voting function would have the question unequivocally resolved in moments – We could even watch it live and see which way our local member voted.

Sadly, education remains another space in which our little nation is left behind.  We can protest that successive governments, both State and Federal, have been the real cause of the sluggish uptake of educational tech.  This, however, is just an excuse.  If compliance is a word that causes eyes to roll at your organisation, digital solutions are precisely what you ought to be exploring.  And you should probably start yesterday.

That’s okay – It’s never too late to make improvements to your business processes, and we’re here to help!  SkillsLive’s commitment is to help bring Australian business out of this quagmire and into the future.  If you prefer to be on the leading edge of this trend, let’s start the conversation.

Gamification is a powerful tool in the delivery of education.

Game Theory must first take into account the context of the challenge or process being performed. The most difficult part of describing this context is the attributes of the individual being catered to and how they can be measured or leveraged to promote greater adoption and engagement.
